Houston, Texas - A powerful storm system brought tornadoes and severe weather to the Houston area on Tuesday, leaving at least 7 people dead and hundreds of thousands without power.
The National Weather Service confirmed at least three tornadoes touched down in the Houston area, including one that caused significant damage in the city of Pasadena.
According to local officials, the tornado in Pasadena caused "catastrophic" damage, with numerous buildings destroyed or heavily damaged. Several people were injured in the tornado, and one person died.
In addition to the tornadoes, the storm system brought heavy rain, flooding, and high winds to the Houston area. Streets in downtown Houston were littered with glass, insulation, and twisted metal debris after the storm.
School officials canceled classes in the city on Friday, and over 200,000 homes and businesses were reported to be without power.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the Houston area until 9 p.m. CST. Residents are urged to stay indoors and be prepared for more severe weather.
